Who said it was time for summer to be over?

I am sure many of us not are ready to get our heads back into our homes & those projects we left behind in June. “I’ll deal with it in the fall” is here! The phone calls we are receiving, tell us that many of you would love some “Cliff Notes” on upcoming 2014 Kitchen Trends. As you “study up” for your kitchen remodel, here’s 3 trends that we see having staying power:

1. Trend Setter! Transitional style is leading the pack in cabinet selections. Transitional style is a blend of contemporary and traditional. We like the simpler lines than traditional and slightly more elaborate details than contemporary that transitional offers.  In order of popularity, styles following transitional are contemporary, shaker and arts & crafts.

2. Bright & Shiny! Polished Chrome is becoming a stand out in finish selections for faucets, hardware and metal trim. Brushed finishes are still in the mix, just not leading the pack. Bronze is still strong, just edging down slightly in popularity. Stainless steel finishes for appliances is still the timeless choice.

 3. Au revoir Cher-ry! Cherry & maple wood cabinets are in decline. Alder is edging out as well. All things once old are new again.Trending forward in wood cabinet species are oak, walnut, birch, bamboo and some exotics. Fresh finishes on these woods take them into 2014 in style. The re-emerging front runners are distressed, washed  finishes with color accents. A perennial classic finish is painted white cabinets. Rich dark ebony & expresso finishes round out the mix.
