After a year of being stuck inside we are all loving the great outdoors! Fresh air, space to move around, and travel for the first time in many months. We look forward to catching up with friends and family members, seeing new places, and just relaxing. But if we want to keep that feeling of escape and relaxation through the colder months, it might be time to start thinking about a basement update. House remodeling heads downstairs with this inside look at one basement remodel.

The Hodgmans wanted to think outside the man cave and create a place for their whole family. If you’re remembering cramped quarters last fall/winter, this might be just the perfect thing for your family too!

With three young boys at home, they needed a place for kids to burn off energy. They also wanted a place their whole family could use for entertainment and relaxation. When picturing house remodeling, they were dreaming of a better basement!

Rethinking Basement Space

The space to work with was unique.

The center stairs of their basement created two main areas to use in their space planning. The larger area allowed for a multipurpose room with a dry bar, small fireplace, TV area & game space. This area was ideal for their soft leather sectional, creating the perfect space to kick back and watch a movie. There was even a small nook for a mini fridge.

The smaller space became the true man cave for serious TV sports viewing. With a larger tv, second couch, and storage cabinets to tuck everything out of site, this area was the perfect compliment.

Additional cabinet storage and counter space helped create a perfect place for entertaining — for both kids and adults. Floating vinyl wood flooring created a seamless transition between sections, making the entire basement appear larger. The white wainscoting, warm color scheme with red accents and mix of textures is the perfect backdrop for any team!
